The 5th Annual Bowl with a Bruin & Friends Tournament will bring together former Boston Bruins, New England Patriots, local sports and media celebrities and teams of enthusiastic Bowlers to support the Boston Bruins Foundation Pan Mass Challenge Bike Team and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

The Boston Bruins Foundation’s mission is to enhance the quality of life for children throughout New England by supporting organizations that prioritize academics, athletics, community outreach and health.   The Pan Mass Challenge is a perfect match due to their unparalleled efforts to raise funds for pediatric cancer research at the Dana-Farber. The 2019 Bruins Foundation Team raised $480,000, bringing their 14-year total supporting Dana-Farber to over $3.3 million.

One of the joys of riding in the PMC is seeing children with signs along the route stating, “Cancer free for 5 years” or “I’m alive because of you”. It motivates our team to put in the training needed to finish the 2-day, 192-mile ride. Another motivation is our honorary team member and Pedal Partner Cian Byrne. In 2014 at 2 ½ years old Cian was diagnosed with hepatoblastoma, a rare form of liver cancer. Within a day of his diagnosis, Cian and his family met with an expert team at Dana-Farber’s Jimmy Fund Clinic. One week later Cian began the first of four rounds of chemotherapy before having his tumor and three-quarters of his liver removed. On St. Patrick’s Day, 2015, the family received the news that Cian was in remission. Thankfully there are a growing number of stories like Cian’s which is a tribute to the great work done by Dana-Farber, organizations like the Bruins Foundation and Pan Mass Challenge that support them and the generosity of people like you.

Thanks for all your support and let’s Strike Out Cancer.
